Student Support

At London Film Academy, we believe in creating a supportive environment to help students get the most of out of their course.

Student life can be fun but is not without its challenges; whether you’re studying with us on an undergraduate, postgraduate, or specialised short course, our courses are geared towards the real-world and offer professional film education in a practical setting. This inevitably involves working to deadlines, grappling with the sometimes complex dynamics of working relationships, and pushing ourselves to develop new skills.

We can provide a wide range of information and support to you during your time with us.

This webpage describes some of the main types of support. Please note that this page does not detail emergency or crisis support services, which are listed separately here.

Academic support

If, during your course, you would like to request some additional academic advice or support – for example, if you would like some help understanding the feedback from a particular piece of work, or you wish to discuss your progress on the course, you can email your tutor or module leader.

If you are unsure who to contact, you can also email our student support team for advice. Our student support team can also provide you with details of our processes for requesting a one-off absence or extensions for personal reasons.

Mental health and wellbeing support

If, during your studies, you would like to talk to someone about specialist mental health support, you can use our mental health registration form (available to current students only) to request a one-to-one conversation about the types of support available.

In some cases, we can provide ongoing support via meetings with our Student Wellbeing Manager. We also know about external sources of support, such as NHS, voluntary sector services and counselling services – some of which are publicly-funded, some of which are funded by London Film Academy and some of which would need to be funded by you. We can talk to you about the types of support available and help you think through what might be most appropriate in your circumstances.

As an LFA student, you also have free and confidential access to Togetherall, an online peer support platform that offers the opportunity to connect with students who are going through similar things all over the world. You can sign up on the Togetherall website, using your LFA email address.

Disability support

If you have a disability (a physical or mental impairment which has lasted, or is likely to last, twelve months or more and which has a significant impact on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities), we have a process for talking through any additional support needs you may have during your course.

To request a meeting to discuss disability-related adjustments, email our student support team.

The nature of our building, which is a converted church building in a conservation area, presents challenges in relation to physical accessibility, particularly for wheelchair users. We are always open to exploring options to enhance the accessibility of our premises; however, it is unlikely we will be able to make our current premises as accessible as we would like.

If you are a prospective or current student and you have specific physical access requirements, you are very welcome to contact us to discuss, as we are always open to exploring other possible ways forward for making our courses accessible, where possible. To request a conversation, email our student support team in the first instance, and we will arrange a time for a more detailed discussion.

Advice on finances and fees

If you need to talk to someone about your finances or your fees during your course, you are welcome to email our admissions team.

Information about visas for international students

If you are an international student in the UK on a student visa, and you would like to talk to someone at London Film Academy about your student visa, email our admissions team in the first instance.

Other student support enquiries

If you have any other questions about issues related to support you require during your time studying at London Film Academy, you are welcome to email our student support team.
