What is sexual misconduct, violence and abuse?

  • Sexual misconduct is a type of violence that uses power, control, and/or intimidation to harm another
  • It includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking
  • Sexual misconduct occurs when there is an absence of consent
  • It's a broad term encompassing non-consensual physical contact of a sexual nature, including contact that is committed by force or intimidation, or through the use of the victim's mental or physical incapacity, including as a result of the consumption of drugs or alcohol
  • Sexual misconduct also includes conduct considered inappropriate on an individual or societal basis of morality, sexual harassment, and/or criminal sexual assault
