Matthias Salzburger, filmmaker and graduate of LFA’s Filmmaking Certificate, has won the Italian Golden Globe for ‘Best Short Film’.
Nominated for his short film Chloe, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, Matthias triumphed at the 65th annual Globo d’oro Awards, against strong competition.
Matthias graduated from LFA’s Filmmaking Certificate in 2015. He went on to direct several award-winning short films, including I Am Mia (2018) and Thicker Than Water (2020), the latter of which was Academy Award qualified. In 2020, he founded ScarFilms, a boutique film and commercial agency that has worked with high-profile brands including Sony and Sky.
Matthias’ latest film follows the life of the titular Chloe, a single mother who finds herself and her son homeless on the streets of Venice, forcing her to take drastic actions. The short film stars Bridgerton and Dune: Prophecy actor Charithra Chandran and was both written and directed by Matthias.
Chloe’s awards triumph is the latest in a series of successes for Matthias and his crew, with a feature adaptation of the short film now in early development.
Reacting to the Globo d’oro win, Matthias told LFA:
Extending gratitude to his team, Matthias added:
London Film Academy would like to extend congratulations to Matthias on this fantastic achievement and wish him every success as he takes the next step in his exciting career.
